Introduction to Design

Two short, introductory courses for students who would like to learn about some of the skills and techniques used by designers, without undertaking a full, professional course.

Each of our short courses is four modules long and includes tutorial support from an expert tutor as well as all required course material and a free course book.

Our short courses are also ideal if you are considering one of our full length design courses but don’t yet feel ready to take the plunge. A short course can provide a gentle introduction as well as helping you to decide if this is the right career area for you.

Introduction to Interior Design

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to design principles, taking the student step-by-step through the redesign of their home. The course includes down-to-earth advice from experienced interior designers, showing you how to make the right decisions for your home and create a tranquil and attractive living space. The course book is Harmonious Home by Judith Wilson.

Introduction to Garden Design

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to garden design principles, taking the student step-by-step through the redesign of their own garden, and also exploring the wider application of ore principles. The course includes expert advice and support from experienced garden designers, showing you how to make the right decisions for your own home and create the garden of your dreams. By the end of the course you will also have a strong understanding of general design principles The course book is Design Your Garden by Diarmuid Gavin.

* When you enrol by instalments you will only be charged the £55 deposit when you enrol. We’ll send a Standing Order form that you can complete to pay your remaining instalments. If you prefer to pay the deposit and instalments by standing order, you can download and complete a form here. We’ll send out your first batch of course material as soon as we receive your first payment.

This course is also available online. Our online courses are delivered as pdfs direct to your email inbox. Our online courses are exactly the same as the postal version, but include a range of supporting study material instead of textbooks.
